  40 things to fix:
  41         cleaner separation of layers.
  42         fcntl-style byte locks - almost done. it just needs to do a
  43                 little sorting to get around a race condition.
  44         AFP <-> Unix permissions. there are a couple cases where they
  45                 don't map perfectly. in particular, gid == 0 means
  46                 ignore group permissions while uid == 0 means anybody
  47                 can fiddle with this file. in addition, we need to be
  48                 able to still change permissions on a directory with u-a
  49                 set. finally, we need to adjust the offspring count
  50                 for directories based upon what permissions they
  51                 have. i.e., search -> can see directories.
  52                             read -> can see files.
  53                 we need to map permissions so that these semantics get
  54                 followed.
  55         real variable DIDs for now: it turns out that afpd lies about
